Why DIY alarms are not the best solution
Alarms you fit yourself are cheap, simple and easy to move. But they have drawbacks worth knowing before you decide.
Add-ons are expensive
They are cheap because they have few parts. Anything else you need, such as extra detectors or a bigger battery, pushes the price up and the saving disappears.
They are very basic
Professional systems have backup batteries for power cuts, panic buttons, pet-friendly detectors and fire detectors.
They alert nobody
A DIY alarm simply sounds. With no connection to a monitoring centre, a break-in has no consequence for the burglar.
You are on your own
You have no technician beside you, either for fitting or for a fault. A wrong installation reduces the security you wanted to gain.
